Amanda

I love your pictures and I am so glad that your friend eventually delivered her baby safely and that she is now o.k. I had a placental abruption at 6 months when I was pregnant with my Daughter. I also went into labour. The hospital were brilliant and managed to stop my labour and bleeding and pumped me full of steriods to mature Emily's lungs. I finally had to be induced at 42 weeks as she became so comfortable and large in there that I thought she was never going to come outRollEyes. She did after a big struggle and now she is taller than me and 14 years old. Don't be scared, even if you have a problem it is marvellous what they can do nowadays.

I will be thinking about you tomorrow.

What a day yesterday! As always here we had a big drama just as i was about to leave for the hospital. Mark was working from home...thankfully- as we had had this onslaught of flies everywhere for about two days. Honestly, Mark and Ben must have swatted 100 flies and I was becoming worried about it as I had no idea where they were coming from....

I even rang pest control on Tues to be told flies are not pests but I may have a dead mouse come where (thank you man for calming my nerves..) and once it was removed the flies would go.

Anyway, at 10.15am yesterday morning, a few minutes before we needed to leave, Samuel was putting his saxophone back on it;s stand when he said there was a bad smell from the iron fireplace in the library and there were flies coming out of it. He suddenly remembered that the children had heard a bird up there a few weeks ago as if it was stuck...oh NO! He looked up there and saw the dead pigeon covered in flies......I was sick and then went outside as I couldn't bear the thought of what Mark would say! (LOL)..Poor love had to put on garden gloves and put his hand up the chimney and pull......I had to leave with Ben or I'd be late..

I got to the hospital and I went up to the Silver Star unit where I am always seen and when I said I was here for a scan the midwife said as I am high risk I am counted as 'special'and need all the normal checks done too. Well, thank God I did as I have a UTI!! i thought my tummy felt odd- it was tightening alot and uncomfortable and I was trying hard not to panic but it isn't always a good sign-- apparently UTIs really upset the uterus and left untreated can cause premature labour!! Gosh, never have I welcomed anti-biotics more!

She said the veins at the back of my knee (Mark noticed them and they are huge, blue and very livid, frightening to be honest) were not dangerous but would begin to hurt soon if I don't wear support tights!! Oh no! In this heat! She said it is a good idea though as they will clear up better if I do..

I then went in and saw the Obstetrician who I hadn't met and she is lovely and so much more friendly, and less serious. She did the scan- saw BABY- dancing on the screen for me and looking fat! The blood flow from me to baby and baby to me is normal and looks good. This is something they look at for anyone whose had complications as it can, sometimes, show if a woman is more likely to have high BP, placental problems and other major issues. She said it doesn't rule abruption out.

She also told me, and this is the first time a Dr has ever said this, that there IS a link between RA and placenta abruptions. I am not too surprised as I had my first abruption with my second baby and fell into none of the categories at all.....So, I am feeling anxious which is natural but I must try to keep it at bay. Kathryn's terrible experience has also really scared me too.

I collected my anti-biotics and had to have my CRP checked- it was 21 last time which I am not too happy about. I hope it is much lower this time.

Today I only have my two youngest boys and I took them swimming!!! Still cannot believe it, we haven't been back long and they absolutely loved it. I think I have taught Patrick to swim properly now- he was nearly there in Leicester but not quite, but today he was really going for it...He was throwing himself off the side too and was asked to please not do karate kicks into the water!! LOLOL

They are eating baked apples filled with honey, sultanas, cinnamon, and brown sugar- yummy!

Love,
Amanda

Good to hear you're being so well looked after.
That pigeon must have been so horrible for you. We had a similar thing with a dead mouse once- not nice, but at least it wasn't on the same scale as a pigeon!!

Yes! The pigeon episode was dire- I still feel very bad for not having phoned the RSPCA when the children told me they were sure a bird was stuck down the chimney. The death of a pigeon on my conscience- do you think I should confess this?? (LOL)

I am all alone AGAIN! Mark was called into the Newbury office today to sort something out which has proceeded to be a huge headache and he is still there...

The boys are home though which is lovely, I did miss them alot. They went on the London Eye!

Marie has rang and is very happy but I miss her terribly now (it's been 5 days) and she'll be back on Sunday..

My UTI has no obvious symptoms which I suppose is good yet a bit scary as it could have been overlooked...I am taking the pills!

I also bought cranberry capsules and am drinking alot- no, not wine!

Love,

Amanda

Glad to hear that you're taking the antibiotics, not nice, but in your case very necessary. Poor old pigeon, but honestly I don't think you need to go to confession for this, a little prayer to St Francis should suffice...

Can empathise with the pigeon episode, when I used to live in a flat with a chimney we regularly had episodes of flies coming into the flat in swarms, also through the vents, the culprit was always a dead pigeon! We stopped it by placing a wire mesh over the top of the chimney and vents.

much love,

Barbara

I was going to take this blog off the forum after all the upset but I have decided to continue it and move it all over to a file if I want to eventually. I haven't felt very compelled to write on here any more plus I seem to have ALL the trivial pregnancy problems one can possibly attain!

Also- I have been feeling very fragile after the fright with my friend Kathryn. I have already had two traumas during this pregnancy- firstly our baby Goddaughter Marianna dying and then hearing that Kathryn had unexpectedly had an abruption, these things have set me back and made me feel even more vulnerable than ever!

Anyway, I took the anti biotics for the UTI which was virtually symptom-less and have now been given a HUGE bout of thrush- on my word! Never have I experienced anything so painful and itchy as this!!! It is dire- I have tried all my herbal and homeopathic remedies, everything only to be left in tears of frustration last night so i am seeing the Doc tomorrow and will willingly take anything for it. At the same time I still have recurrent piles which are agony too! Lovely!

BUT, the midwife from the hospital rang last week to say my HB has dropped to 10.8- more iron! refused ferrous sulphate and they've given me another ferrous something....I may demand liquid iron tomorrow. Any other 'natural' type iron is so weak it won't touch aenemia- spa tone, floridix, anything, they all supply 5-7mg of iron which is nothing. I need to increase the levels drastically as I do not want to have a baby low in iron.

The good news from the midwife is that my CRP levels are now 6! How wonderful was that to hear! I know it is the baby (thank you baby!) but it is a joy to have little active RA as the pregnancy has been stressful enough.

My other problem is absolutely horrific veins behind my right knee- so livid and purple and shocking- i was so worried when i saw them but I know they are only horrible to look at but still I must try and help them- the support tights are all not for pregnant women with huge bumps so I am asking the GP about them tomorrow too. (She'll regret meeting me i'm sure!LOL).

the gagging reflux came back last night- i woke with a start choking and was sick- vile vile vile. I slept as upright as humanely possible but the baby was lurched in this odd position like a cart wheel and we could literally feel limbs...very sweet but uncomfortable. It is so big now- will down load more photos later.

Yesterday was wonderful- we had baby Gabriel's Baptism- we collected Kathryn and Gabriel on the way to Mass as she doesn't drive and she is weak and pale still. It was a lovely joyful occasion but she was emotional afterwards and said to me all she could think was she may not have been here- made me cry too. I was weepy through out (but hid it!) as I cannot help but worry things won't go to plan...

Afterwards we went back to their house for a buffet lunch and drank pink champagne- her hubby had ordered two whole cases of pink as he eas convinced it was another girl but it was their 7th son! Tasted yummy anyway! I think I ate far too much hence the acidity in the night!

Love,
Amanda

Hi Amanda,

Just been reading your blog, I'm sure you will be fine, I'm a firm believer in whats for you wont go passed you. You're family seem so excited about their new baby, I think you may have another little girl. I hope all goes well for you and your sickness stops soon. Just a thought you're not still eating tomatoes are you? They are full of acid and could make you sick. My daughter has a severe allergy to tomatoes they make her violently sick , they always have. I wish you lots of love and happiness and a safe delivery when the time comes. Take care Lorna xx Smile

Dear Amanda, I just love reading your blog.
It is so well written and so wonderful that you are sharing your pregnancy with us.
Sorry to hear about the thrush, but Antibiotics are notorious for bringing
on a bout, as I'm sure you know.
Please keep writing the Blog.
Much love to you and your family,

Hello Amanda,

I also enjoy reading your blog. You are having such a time of it I don't wonder that you have all these fears and concerns. The thrush is a misery. I had it after antibiotics once and clarted on a tub of natural yoghurt until I got to the GP and was given something more appropriate. It did ease the itch a lot though! That darned sickness is so miserable for you. Please be to goodness that you get respite and soon.

Why, thank you for all those replies of support!

The trip to the midwife and GP was successful although it didn't begin as such. When I arrived there I tapped in my name and details on the wall computer and was horrified to see i wasn't seeing the female Dr but a male one! I waddled up to the receptionist to enquire why ? and she told me the female Dr hadn't turned up that morning creating a furore for al the patients wanting to see a female! I considered it for all of two seconds and agreed to see hi after the midwife! (One tiny thought of the Itch and I had no restraints).

The midwife was very lovely again- we had a chat about when things were urgent and when they were not- she said the tightenings I am getting often are natural and as I've had so many babies probably already braxton hicks. They are not dangerous as long as they stop and they do not hurt. I must get my head around this.

She listened to the baby's heart beat and again she said it's a girl! It is very fast and she was really quite sure- but it is not medically proven although many Mams I know agree this to be the case! The baby was very active which was rather amusing.

She agreed that I had thrush and told me to just tell the Dr the midwife says it is thrush and ask for the creams and pessary! Needless to say I did!

He was fine though- he actually knew who I was as he was one of the GPs who came out to see me last summer when I was incapacitated with my hip- he was very gentle and kind. He asked to see my pregnancy notes as he said it is all very interesting to me and was very pleased and intrigued to see and hear how quiet my RA becomes through pregnancy! (My CRP is 6!).

He prescribed me CREAM for Thrush and a pessary.....thank God! I rushed to the pharmacist, grabbed the cream, dashed home and locked myself in the bathroom for a LONG time----AAAH relief is sweet!

Yesterday was Ben's 14th birthday! I cannot believe we have a 14 year old - he had a nice day but many of his friends are away. He went bowling with a friend and we went out to a Pizzeria in the evening with my parents- it was fun but not so joyous being surrounded by pizza-eating people when I was munching a salad (no fun being a coeliac in a pizza place!).....never mind..at least i have cream for thrush eh?!

Love,
A
